On the 22nd of January, over 40,000 Romanians have protested against the Government intentions to modify the Criminal Code. Their move has been described as a “mineriada” by the leader of the political party who granted the patent for this term, through violence, in 1990. In contrast, protesters chose to name the nowadays manifestations “tineriada” (“tineri” = young people). Because the protests in 2017 are not violent! They are peaceful, with youth, dogs and children, aiming at a better future for this country!
On the 31st of January, after 22:00, the Government passed the Emergency Ordinance that hinted at changing the Criminal Code and the Code of Criminal Procedure. People have taken to the streets with indignation.
